Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a stern warning to politicians, cautioning against the use of ethnic mobilization, violence, and divisive tactics to gain political mileage.
Speaking on the political climate and governance in the capital, Sakaja emphasized that Nairobi remains a cosmopolitan hub home to all 47 ethnic communities, warning that any attempts to stoke ethnic tension or sponsor youth-driven violence will not be tolerated.
Sakaja underscored that Nairobi thrives on diversity and inclusion, stating that broad-based political tolerance is essential for the nation’s stability.
The county boss strongly condemned the exploitation of unemployed youth and organized gangs to disrupt public order, terming political violence as a threat to both local and regional security.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritizing county projects over perpetual political rhetoric, Sakaja urged leaders across the political spectrum to focus on constructive leadership rather than rhetoric.
“Nairobi does not need tribal politics. Nairobi has 47 communities. We are broad-based, Nairobi is for everyone, and no one should feel excluded.”
The Governor’s warnings come amid ongoing national debates over political accountability, local governance, and electoral preparedness. Sakaja called upon religious institutions, civil society, and leaders across the political divide to foster peace, mentor young citizens, and actively resist political inciteful behavior that threatens national cohesion.
