KARARE — Grief engulfed Karare in Marsabit Central as family, friends, teammates and fans gathered to bid farewell to two footballers killed in the Baringo road accident.
The burial brought the Marsabit football fraternity together in an emotional send-off, with mourners remembering the players for their talent, friendship and passion for the game.
The deaths have left a deep void in the sporting community.
Marsabit Woman Representative Naomi Waqo said she was deeply saddened by the accident involving Barca FC players in Tiaty.
“My heartfelt condolences to families, friends and the Barca FC fraternity,” Waqo said, wishing quick recovery to the injured.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Marsabit Branch had earlier condoled with the families, saying the football fraternity was deeply saddened.
The accident occurred at around 8.30pm on Sunday, August 23, near Alem in Tiaty West, when a police lorry ferrying players from Bongole FC and Barca FC returning from the Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) Tournament finals in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet lost control and overturned.
The OMU Tournament had brought together over 2,000 participants from nine counties.
