England take on Ghana in group L

England take on Ghana in their second match of the 2026 World Cup following their win over Croatia last week. In their opener, the Three Lions recovered from conceding two equalisers to win 4-2 and put themselves in a strong position in Group L. Thomas Tuchel’s team know that beating Ghana, who won their first match 1-0 against Panama thanks to a 95th-minute goal, would secure their spot in the round of 32 as group winners and with a game to spare.

Aside from the result, England face an uncomfortable situation as Tuchel’s players decide whether to shake the hand of former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey before the match. Partey faces ongoing criminal proceedings in the UK and pleaded not guilty to seven charges of rape and one count of sexual assault. He will face trial next year and was unable to play for Ghana vs Panama after being refused entry into Canada. England’s Football Association have not taken a stance on whether their players should or shouldn’t shake Partey’s hand but the player could be booed by some supporters this evening.
