Health CS Aden Duale Urges Border Communities to Seek Lasting Peace Following Recent Killings

Bura, Kenya – Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has urged leaders and residents of Tana River, Garissa, and Kitui counties to enhance dialogue and find lasting solutions to end frequent border conflicts.

The call comes just days after four people were killed in an attack allegedly carried out by armed camel herders in the Itimba-Ithei area of Tseikuru sub-county, Kitui County. This latest incident brings the death toll over the past two months to 11, following the earlier killings of seven people, including a 14-year-old child, in the Kwa Kamari and Ukasi areas.

Despite several security meetings involving leaders from Garissa and Tana River, the fresh attacks indicate that peace restoration efforts have not yet yielded the desired results.

Speaking during a fundraiser for the Darulhikma and Taqwa Islamic Madrasas in Darulhikma village, Bura constituency, Duale warned that continued violence threatens the security, development, and well-being of the region’s residents.

The Cabinet Secretary urged citizens to maintain peace and live in harmony, stating that God allocated people their lands and no one chooses their neighbor. He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in fostering unity among the affected communities.

Duale’s sentiments were echoed by Yakub Adow, who called on the respective communities to respect territorial boundaries and collaborate to maintain lasting peace.
